Liberian registry withdraws recognition of Russian insurer Ingosstrakh
The Liberian Registry, the world's largest flag by capacity, has withdrawn its approval of Russian insurer Ingosstrakh following UK sanctions on the company, Bloomberg reports. The move affects blue cards, the proof of insurance against risks such as spills and collisions that ships need for port entry. Vessels already covered have a 90-day grace period. Only three Liberian-flagged ships carry Ingosstrakh cover and none of them is an oil tanker, so the step may prove largely symbolic, the report says. It adds that it underlines a growing split between ships able to serve Russia and those that cannot.
