KSE Institute: shadow fleet shipments from Russia's Baltic ports rose 16% in August
Shadow fleet tankers carried 16% more Russian crude and oil products from Baltic Sea ports in August than in July, even as Russia's overall seaborne oil exports fell, according to the KSE Institute's Russian Shadow Fleet Tracker published on 8 October. The institute puts total seaborne exports at about 4.9 million barrels a day, down 6.1% on the month. Of the 258 tankers Russia used, 166 were shadow fleet vessels, and 92% of those were more than 15 years old, it says. Russia and Sierra Leone were the leading flags, while Equatorial Guinea reached a record 8% of shadow fleet volumes. KSE says 52 shadow tankers had cover from Russian insurers, 48 of them sanctioned by at least one jurisdiction.
