KSE Institute counts 185 loaded shadow fleet tankers leaving Russia in October

Some 185 loaded shadow fleet tankers left Russian ports in October, 72% of them built more than 15 years ago, according to the KSE Institute's Russian Oil Tracker published on 30 November. The institute says they exported about 2.6 million barrels a day of crude and 0.8 million of products. Only 26% of crude was shipped on tankers with P&I insurance in October, down from 32% in September, while cover for oil products held at about 60%. Russia's oil export revenues stayed at $18.3bn, the second highest since July 2022, KSE says, warning that ageing, poorly insured tankers sailing past European coasts pose large environmental risks for the EU.
