Greek Supreme Court upholds release of Iranian oil on tanker Lana
Greece's Supreme Court on 26 July declined to overturn a June lower-court ruling that released an Iranian crude cargo and ordered it returned to the tanker Lana, The Maritime Executive reports. The US had sought the cargo through the Greek courts after the ship, then identifying as the Russian-owned Pegas, anchored off Evia in April. The vessel was later renamed Lana and switched to the Iranian flag. According to the report, the US had sanctioned the ship before Russia's invasion of Ukraine over alleged involvement in Iran's oil trade. One US-chartered tanker, the Ice Energy, had already taken on part of the cargo in June. Iran has acknowledged seizing two Greek tankers in retaliation.
