Russia has acquired more than 100 tankers to build a shadow fleet, FT reports

Russia has directly or indirectly acquired more than 100 tankers over the past year to build a "shadow fleet" ahead of the EU ban on seaborne Russian oil and the G7 price cap, the Financial Times reported, according to Novaya Gazeta Europe. Brokers cited by the FT said the number of unfamiliar, anonymous buyers in the second-hand market had risen sharply in recent months, typically buying ships aged 12 to 15 years. Consultancy Rystad put the total at 103 tankers, including vessels shifted from Iranian and Venezuelan trades. The fleet is expected to serve buyers such as India, Turkey and China, the report said.
