UK bans Russian-linked ships from its ports
The UK government on 1 March banned Russian ships from British ports as part of a new round of sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine. The ban covers vessels owned or operated by anyone connected to Russia, and authorities are to receive new powers to detain Russian ships. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said he was instructing all UK ports to turn away any vessel that is flagged, registered, owned or operated by Russia. The same package barred UK individuals and firms from providing financial services to Russia's central bank, finance ministry and National Wealth Fund, and sanctioned the Russian Direct Investment Fund and its chief executive, Kirill Dmitriev.
