CREA: sanctioned shadow tankers carried over half of Russia's seaborne oil in August

Sanctioned shadow tankers carried 52% of Russia's seaborne oil in August, according to CREA's monthly analysis published on 10 September. For crude alone, their share was 61%, against 34% for tankers owned or insured in G7+ countries; for oil products, G7+ tankers moved 72% and sanctioned shadow vessels 19%. CREA counted 45 shadow vessels operating under false flags at the end of the month, 14 of which had alternated between Russian and Iranian cargoes, and said five falsely flagged ships delivered EUR 190 mn of Russian oil during August. Cameroon's registry struck off 26 fraudulently registered vessels in July and 11 in August, shrinking the Cameroon-flagged shadow fleet carrying Russian fuels from 140 in February to 83.
