Russia nearly doubles LNG carrier fleet serving sanctioned Arctic LNG 2
Russia has almost doubled the number of LNG carriers serving its sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project, from 11 in December to at least 20 by early September, according to a Bloomberg report published by gCaptain. Most of the ships have opaque ownership, the report says. A second Russian-built Arc7 ice-class carrier recently loaded at the plant; three such vessels are in service, with another expected by the end of the year, alongside 12 conventional carriers for winter voyages to China, described as the only buyer of sanctioned Russian LNG. Rystad Energy estimates the fleet can move 5.2 to 5.4 million tonnes a year, well short of the two trains' combined capacity of 13.2 million tonnes.
