Italian warship boards suspected shadow tanker Sun to check its flag

Personnel from the Italian patrol ship ITS Thaon di Revel boarded MV Sun on 30 August to verify the tanker's flag, USNI News reports. It was the sixth suspected shadow fleet vessel boarded by EU operations in recent months. In these operations the boarding team records the ship's documents and the ship is then free to continue. Gwyn Jenkins is quoted saying Russian shadow tankers have had to change routes, at real cost, since the interdiction of the sanctioned tanker Smyrtos in June.
