Yle finds nearly half of Russian oil tankers in the Gulf of Finland belong to the shadow fleet
About 600 tankers carrying Russian oil passed through the Gulf of Finland between January and May 2024, and 283 of them belonged to Russia's shadow fleet, according to an investigation by Finnish broadcaster Yle reported by Ukrainska Pravda. Yle found that a blacklisted tanker crossed the gulf every two weeks during the spring. Nearly seven in ten oil tankers using the gulf are at least 15 years old, the investigation says.
