US forces disable two Iranian tankers trying to breach port blockade
US forces fired on and disabled two Iranian oil tankers on Friday after an overnight exchange of fire with Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz, NPR reports. The US military said the tankers had been trying to breach the American blockade of Iran's ports. Earlier in the week, according to NPR, a US military jet shot out the rudder of another tanker that the military said was attempting the same. The US also said it had thwarted Iranian attacks on three Navy ships and struck Iranian military facilities in response. Iran has largely closed the waterway since the US and Israel launched the war on 28 February, while Washington blockades Iranian ports.
