Swedish Supreme Court clears transfer of seized ship Caffa to Ukraine
Sweden's Supreme Court on 4 August dismissed an appeal by Caffa Shipping Ltd, allowing the seized cargo ship Caffa to be handed over to Ukraine, according to court documents reported by Euronews. Swedish police boarded the 96-metre vessel off Trelleborg on 6 March while it was sailing under a false Guinean flag towards Saint Petersburg. Ukraine's sanctions commissioner says the ship carried grain stolen from occupied Ukrainian territory, including a cargo loaded in Sevastopol in July 2025. Euronews describes it as the first court-ordered transfer to Kyiv of a Russian ship suspected of carrying stolen grain. Ukraine's foreign minister called the ruling a "landmark decision".
