Crude leaking from sanctioned tanker Caroline Bezengi off Oman
The tanker Caroline Bezengi, which is under EU and UK sanctions over alleged involvement in carrying Russian fuel, appears to be leaking crude off Oman, MarineLink reported, citing Reuters. The vessel, carrying Russian oil from Novorossiysk, ran into trouble on 8 June off Yemen's Mukalla port, where maritime security sources said a blast occurred on board. Satellite images from 28 July showed dark slicks near the ship and lighter patches north of al-Qibliyyah island in a protected marine area. A Pax analyst said at least one hull seemed to be breached. An IMO spokesperson said authorities were discussing the safety and environmental risks.
