South Korea detains stateless cargo ship De Yi over suspected North Korea sanctions breach
South Korea's coast guard redirected the cargo ship De Yi to the Busan anchorage on 30 March after it initially refused orders to stop, The Maritime Executive reports. The Foreign Ministry said it was investigating alleged sanctions violations in cooperation with the United States. The ship is believed to have called at North Korea's Namo port before going to Shandong, China, and was reporting Vladivostok, Russia, as its destination when detained. Its flag and ownership are unknown. The vessel has 13 crew, including a Chinese captain, who the report says refused to cooperate with South Korean authorities.
