Patrushev says London and Brussels are planning a Baltic blockade, Interfax reports

Nikolai Patrushev, the presidential aide who chairs Russia's Maritime Board, has accused Western countries of trying to organise interceptions of Russian ships, Interfax reports. Speaking during talks in China with the Chinese transport minister, Liu Wei, on 12 October, Patrushev claimed that London and Brussels were working on plans to blockade the Baltic Sea and the straits leading into it. RIA Novosti, reporting the same talks, said he also warned that shipping through the Strait of Malacca could be disrupted, and presented Russia's Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor as a safe and economically beneficial alternative route.
