Spain turns away tanker carrying diesel traced to formerly Russian-flagged ship
Spain has refused the Singapore-flagged tanker Maersk Magellan entry to the port of Tarragona because its diesel cargo originated from a Russian ship, S&P Global Commodity Insights reported on 13 February. According to the Transport Ministry's documents, the Maersk Magellan loaded the diesel by ship-to-ship transfer from the Elephant in the Alboran Sea, and the cargo's certificate of origin showed it had earlier been aboard the Cameroon-flagged Nobel, which sailed under the Russian flag until 1 July. The EU banned imports of Russian diesel from 5 February. S&P also cited press reports that Ceuta's port authority had warned two local service providers not to assist Russian ships operating nearby.
