Sanctioned Russian-flagged cargo ship Lady Mariia idles off Port Said for five weeks, Maritime Executive says
The Russian-flagged ro-ro ship Lady Mariia has spent 35 days at anchor just outside Egyptian territorial waters off Port Said, The Maritime Executive reported on 12 October. The publication says the vessel is known for carrying Russian military cargo and was sanctioned in May 2022, while its owner, MG-Flot, was sanctioned by the US Treasury in 2021. According to the report, the ship passed through the Strait of Gibraltar on 29 August, called at Oran and was attacked by bomb-dropping drones between Crete and Libya on 6 September, escaping serious damage. The publication estimates the stay is costing over $500,000 a month in lost revenue and suggests she may be collecting intelligence on Suez Canal traffic.
