Japan restricts services to 35 vessels it links to Russia's shadow fleet
Japan's government announced further sanctions on Russia on Friday 3 October, including curbs on services to 35 vessels it says belong to the shadow fleet carrying sanctioned Russian oil, Kyodo News reports. The measures bar insurance, maritime transport, crew employment and dispatch, and repairs for the ships, which are believed to move Russian crude to buyers including China and India. Tokyo also restricted payments and transactions with 33 entities and nine individuals, added 102 goods to its export curbs and banned exports to four entities in the United Arab Emirates and Turkey. According to Kyodo, the step was coordinated with other G7 members. Ukraine's President Zelenskyy welcomed the package.
