Iran seizes Chevron-chartered tanker as US moves on Iranian oil cargo
Iranian forces boarded the Marshall Islands-registered tanker Advantage Sweet from helicopters in the Gulf of Oman on 27 April and took it into Iranian waters, according to Maritime Executive and US Central Command. Chevron had chartered the ship, which has 24 Indian crew and was bound for Houston from Kuwait. Iran says the tanker failed to stop after a fatal collision with a fishing boat, but reports link the seizure to a US effort to seize an Iranian oil cargo aboard another tanker, the Suez Rajan. Citing people briefed on the matter, the Financial Times reported that US authorities had ordered a tanker of Iranian crude to head towards the US.
