Hormuz traffic collapses as Iranian shadow tankers slow and go dark

Only around 44 to 45 transits of the Strait of Hormuz had been recorded since the start of March, roughly a 90% fall in tonnage from normal levels, gCaptain reported, citing data including Lloyd's List Intelligence. About 80% of traced transits were dark, with vessels' AIS switched off, and 40 to 50 ships went offline as the crisis began. According to the analysis, Greek-affiliated vessels outnumbered Iranian shadow fleet ships in recent crossings, while Iranian tankers showed caution, low speeds, clustering and some drifting. Lloyd's List Intelligence analyst Bridget Diakun said the Greek-linked ships had loaded oil inside the Gulf and were heading for the strait.
