French navy boards tanker Deyna in the western Mediterranean

The French navy, supported by Britain, boarded the Mozambique-flagged tanker Deyna in the western Mediterranean and escorted it to an anchorage for inspection, gCaptain reported. The ship had sailed from Murmansk and, according to a Western military source, was carrying Russian crude. President Emmanuel Macron described such vessels as "war profiteers" that circumvent sanctions and break the law of the sea. A maritime security source said France could formally seize the tanker if material irregularities were found. UK Defence Secretary John Healey said disrupting Russia's shadow fleet was a government priority. It was France's second such interception after the tanker Grinch in January.
