EU sanctions Yamal LNG carrier Christophe de Margerie
The EU's 15th sanctions package, adopted on 16 December, includes the Arc7 ice-class LNG carrier Christophe de Margerie, the first time the bloc has targeted Yamal LNG by listing a ship serving the project, gCaptain reports. The vessel remains linked to Russia's Sovcomflot, though it is now owned through a UAE company, Zelitiko Shipping. The listing gains weight when the EU ban on transshipping Russian LNG takes effect on 31 March 2025, after which terminals in Belgium and France will stop moving cargoes from ice-class carriers to conventional tankers. Industry observers expect buyers to avoid its cargoes.
