EU proposes 21st Russia sanctions package targeting shadow fleet support vessels

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas presented a proposed 21st package of sanctions against Russia on 9 June, gCaptain reported. The plan would list 30 more ships, taking the number of sanctioned vessels above 660, and for the first time would target vessels that supply bunker fuel and other services to already-sanctioned tankers. It also proposes curbs on selling LNG tankers to Russia, transaction bans covering two Russian ports, and measures against banks and crypto platforms. Von der Leyen said the Commission proposed to pause the oil price cap adjustment until January. The package requires approval by EU member states before it can take effect.
