French prosecutors keep seized tanker DF Peak immobilised off Réunion until inquiry ends
The tanker DF Peak will stay immobilised in the Baie de La Possession off Réunion until the investigation is complete, the Saint-Denis prosecutor's office said on 22 October, according to Imaz Press. The office, led by prosecutor Véronique Denizot, said lifting the order was not currently under consideration. The inquiry now centres on the ship's owning company and its operator, and investigators are examining seized documents and digital media to establish the chain of responsibility. The captain and crew remain aboard and may move freely on the ship. On 21 October, two prefectural orders barred navigation within 1,000 metres of the tanker during its transit and within 500 metres of its anchorage.
