Sweden boards EU-sanctioned tanker over Baltic oil spill

Sweden's coastguard boarded the tanker Flora 1 on Friday on suspicion of an environmental crime, after a 12-kilometre oil slick was detected east of Gotland the previous day, Euronews reported. According to the coastguard, the vessel appears on the EU sanctions list and questions were raised over its flag status, which authorities described as unknown. The oil-laden ship, with 24 crew aboard, had come from a port in the Gulf of Finland and was escorted to an anchorage near Ystad. Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin said the government took the incident seriously, although it was not a major spill this time.
