US sanctions 13 targets moving Iranian commodity revenue to the Houthis
The US Treasury on 7 December designated 13 individuals and entities it says funnelled tens of millions of dollars in foreign currency from the sale of Iranian commodities to the Houthis in Yemen. Treasury says the network of facilitator Sa'id al-Jamal sells and ships Iranian commodities and moves the proceeds through exchange houses in several countries for the benefit of the Houthis and Iran's Revolutionary Guard Qods Force. Among those named is shipping agent Fadi Deniz, who Treasury says organised multiple shipments for al-Jamal, including arranging payments for the vessels used. Under Secretary Brian Nelson said the Houthis continue to receive funding and support from Iran.
