Tanker Myra needed no help after Atlantic distress alert and continues voyage, UK coastguard says
The Press and Journal reports that the Russian-linked tanker Myra required no assistance after sending a distress alert in the Atlantic on 24 October, and was allowed to continue its voyage. Britain's Maritime and Coastguard Agency told the newspaper that an RAF Lossiemouth Poseidon aircraft established contact with the ship, whose crew said the alert had been triggered as they left an area of large swells. The agency said the alert was received at 2.06pm on Saturday, with the vessel around 350 nautical miles off the Isle of Mull and 21 people aboard. The Ministry of Defence declined to comment, according to the paper, which adds that tracking data shows the voyage began in Russia.
