Sanctioned tanker Myra sends distress signal west of Ireland after leaving Ust-Luga, The Insider reports
The Insider reports that the sanctioned oil products tanker Myra sent a distress signal in the North Atlantic west of Ireland on 24 October, after leaving the Russian port of Ust-Luga and sailing north around Britain. Citing the monitoring project SeaNews, it says the alert went out via Inmarsat-C at 12:38 UTC in rough seas and that the UK Coastguard was coordinating assistance. The reason for the alert, and whether the ship was damaged, were not known. The outlet says Myra is listed under Cameroon's flag, likely falsely, and is sanctioned by six jurisdictions including the US, EU and UK. Ukraine's defence intelligence links it to the shipping network of Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, according to The Insider.
