Krasnodar region declares heightened readiness over oil spill risk after Black Sea ship attacks, RIA reports
Authorities in Russia's Krasnodar region have put Gelendzhik and Novorossiysk on heightened readiness because of the risk of an oil product spill following drone attacks on ships in the Black Sea, RIA Novosti reports. According to the agency, Governor Veniamin Kondratyev's order cites the threat of a regional emergency and says attacks by uncrewed boats on 6 October damaged vessels at sea. RIA says emergency services have been placed on alert, environmental monitoring is being stepped up, and the Maritime Rescue Service's Azov-Black Sea branch has been advised to stop oil products reaching the shore. The agency recalls that Russia's transport ministry reported last week that a Liberian-flagged tanker had been hit, with its 23 Indian crew rescued.
