Hungary blocks EU's 20th Russia sanctions package and its shadow fleet measures
Hungary has vetoed the EU's 20th sanctions package against Russia, preventing the unanimous approval needed before the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion, the Kyiv Independent reports. The package included a full ban on maritime services for Russian crude oil shipments, sanctions on 43 more shadow fleet vessels and limits on LNG tanker maintenance. According to the report, Budapest linked its veto to the Druzhba oil pipeline, offline since late January after Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure; Hungary and Slovakia blamed Kyiv for delayed repairs, which Ukraine denied. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called it "a setback and a message we didn't want to send today".
