Spain escorts sanctioned tanker Chariot Tide to Morocco after engine failure
The Mozambique-flagged tanker Chariot Tide, which the EU and UK sanctioned in November 2024 under its former name Marabella Sun, lost propulsion on 22 January about 33 miles south of Adra in Spain's search-and-rescue zone, gCaptain reports. The Spanish rescue vessel Clara Campoamor escorted it towards Tanger Med in Morocco. Spain's merchant marine confirmed the escort but did not say why the ship was not detained, and the defence ministry declined to comment.
