Arctic LNG 2 yet to ship a cargo as sanctions hold up ice-class carriers
Russia's Arctic LNG 2 has been producing for more than six weeks but has not shipped a cargo, and first deliveries expected in January or February have slipped to at least March, High North News reports. US sanctions announced in November 2023 mean three Arc7 ice-class LNG carriers due to go to Japan's Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for the project cannot enter service. MOL president Takeshi Hashimoto said that if the company cannot serve Arctic LNG 2, its contract obliges it to sell the vessels. Other Arc7 carriers are nearing completion at South Korean and Russian yards, the outlet says, while Novatek has set up a sales office in China to find buyers.
