UN experts find North Korea breached fuel import cap via tanker deliveries
A UN Security Council panel of experts says nearly 800,000 barrels of refined petroleum were delivered to North Korea's western port of Nampo over eight months of 2022, against an annual UN cap of 500,000 barrels, Global Trade Review reported on 17 May. Evidence from 52 countries identified 45 tanker deliveries between January and August 2022, and the panel says imports would breach the cap even if the tankers were only 60 per cent loaded. The report says North Korea acquired more than 30 tankers and cargo ships between 2020 and 2022, and cites prohibited ship-to-ship transfers. Russia and China dispute the findings.
