Russian embassy says Denmark may be preparing to detain ships with Russian cargo, RIA Novosti reports

Russia's embassy in Denmark has told Izvestia that Copenhagen is signalling it may be preparing what the embassy called piratical operations against ships carrying Russian cargo in the Baltic Sea, RIA Novosti reported on 23 October. According to the agency, the embassy said Denmark had welcomed forceful detentions of such ships by NATO countries and did not rule out acting in the same way. The embassy said NATO efforts to restrict Russian shipping, particularly of oil and oil products, were raising tension in the Baltic, warned that any provocation could have grave and unpredictable consequences, and said Russia would respond firmly. The report cites no Danish official.
