US sanctions Greek shipping veteran Antonios Margaritis and Iran shadow tankers

The US Treasury sanctioned Greek national Antonios Margaritis, his companies and nearly a dozen vessels it says belong to Iran's shadow fleet, accusing him of using decades of shipping experience to help transport and sell Iranian petroleum. Other vessels and operators involved in Iranian oil exports were designated at the same time. Secretary Scott Bessent said the action degrades Tehran's ability to fund its weapons programmes and support armed groups.
