UK finance minister Healey urges tighter ban on shipping services used by Russia's shadow fleet

British finance minister John Healey has called on other countries to tighten sanctions on shipping linked to Russia, Reuters reports. Speaking in Bangkok on Thursday 15 October before meeting counterparts at the IMF annual meetings, Healey said his message to finance ministers was to maintain tough economic sanctions on Russia, especially a tighter ban on the shipping services that help the shadow fleet operate. His remarks came a day after a US official said the Trump administration was considering easing sanctions on shadow fleet vessels carrying oil from Russia, Iran and Venezuela to bring down record freight rates. Britain has already sanctioned shipping and related services it believes help fund Russia's war in Ukraine.
