Greenpeace targets Baltic bunker tanker after SVT links it to Russian oil trade
Greenpeace Nordic activists in two rubber boats painted slogans on the 8,000-tonne bunker vessel Zircone off the Swedish island of Gotland on 12 April, The Maritime Executive reports. Swedish broadcaster SVT had reported that the ship refuelled 56 vessels over two months, 52 of which it says were sailing to or from Russia. The operator, Fast Bunkering, did not deny the refuelling when contacted by SVT and Reuters but said it complies with all applicable sanctions and sources its fuel in Europe rather than Russia. Greenpeace said ageing shadow fleet tankers have dubious insurance and obscure ownership.
