US says 144 ships turned back under Iran blockade as of 31 October

US Central Command says its forces had redirected 144 commercial vessels as of 31 October under the naval blockade of Iran, Middle East Eye reported on 1 November. That is an increase of nine on the 135 CENTCOM reported earlier in the month. CENTCOM said the ships were turned back "to ensure compliance" with the blockade of Iranian ports, which the outlet says was announced in mid-July. The aircraft carrier USS George Washington is supporting enforcement, according to CENTCOM.
